The Hebrew language lies at the core of the Jewish experience, from intentionality in prayer and delving into Torah texts to navigating the aisles of the supermarket. Anyone aspiring to contribute to the Jewish conversation, develop a Torah personality and be part of a community of scholars requires a strong foundation in the language of our tradition.

As part of our commitment to strong textual learning and engagement with the larger Jewish world, Amudim provides students with a range of opportunities geared towards honing and advancing their Hebrew language skills, at both textual and conversational levels.

With the understanding that students enter the year in Israel with varying levels of fluency in Hebrew, Amudim assesses each student’s skill level at the outset and places her in Hebrew immersion and ulpan classes that are suitable to her needs and will best help her advance. In addition, Amudim provides regular formal and informal opportunities for students to learn and interact with Israelis in Hebrew.

University Level Classes

One day each week, students may opt to study side by side with Israelis at an institute of higher learning, where classes are conducted entirely in Hebrew.

HEBREW IMMERSION

Select classes at the midrasha are taught in Hebrew by instructors who specialize in improving the Hebrew language skills of their students via Torah study.

Multi-Level Ulpan

Weekly ulpan classes utilize a highly interactive specialized method that has proven enormously successful in the development of Hebrew language skills. Students’ Hebrew language skills are assessed at the beginning of the year for placement purposes and classes are tailored towards differing needs within each level.

Bnot Sherut

Amudim is happy to host young women during their year of national service (sherut leumi). Our bnot sherut live with the students and conduct havrutot, haburot and activities in Hebrew.

Internships

As part of their integration into the Israeli workforce through our internship program, Amudim students may opt to be placed in an entirely Israeli environment where Hebrew is the spoken language.
